More Region Six schools receive education grants, as distribution continues countrywide

[www.inewsguyana.com] – President Donald Ramotar, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and Regional Chairman, Permaul Armogan yesterday (Sunday, October 26) visited the J.C Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant and Cropper Primary Schools, East Berbice Corentyne, where scores of parents and guardians turn up to receive the Government of Guyana “because we care” $10,000 education grant.

The programme was officially launched on October 11 in Region 7 and already over $600 million in vouchers has been distributed to parents in several regions.

President Ramotar told parents that this investment is aimed at ensuring that the country’s children attends school and receive the quality of education that is need for their development.

“We have always been convinced that the most important factor for development is our people and we have seen that example in many parts of the world…..we have seen up to 30 years ago when all the news we got was about starvation and famine in countries like china, and today they are leading the world’s economy and all you have to do is trace why they have done so well and you will see it is because of the importance they placed on education and education is extremely important is that regard,” the president said.Edu Grant  1

Meanwhile, Minister Manickchand also mentioned some of the development in the education sector, one of the latest being at the CXC level where Guyana copped four of the eight regional awards.

The education grant will see the sum of $10,000 being allocated to every child in the public school system. The initiative is expected to benefit 188,406 families with children of nursery, primary, and secondary schools, and will cost a total of $2B. [Extracted and modified from GINA]
