Mocha resident remanded for robbery offence

Copy of DSC05119A man was today remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty, charged with robbery with violence. Nicholas Anthony Smith of Mocha Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was not required to plead to the charge.

The court heard that on August 26 at Camp and Middle Street Georgetown he in company of others stole several articles totaling $115,000 property of Jomal Mc Donald after which he choked and dealt the complainant several cuffs about his body.

According to the prosecution’s case, on the day of the incident the complainant was walking along the Northern side of Camp Street when the accused along with others confronted the complainant then choked and cuffed him several times about his body and then took away his belongings.

After the court was indulged in the prosecution’ case for a while, the Magistrate refused bail and Smith will reappear in court on September 03. [Royan Abrams]
