Man remanded for trafficking over 13 pounds of marijuana

A 59-year-old man was on Tuesday remanded to prison when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore to answer to a charge of marijuana possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Hybrabrad Ally, of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 9, 2017, he was found to be in possession of 13 ½ pounds of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on the Highbury Public Road, East Bank Berbice.

Ally was represented by Attorney Charran Dass. He was refused bail and is expected to return to court on November 4, 2017.

According to Police information, at around 18:40hrs on Monday last, “B” Division stopped a grey Toyota Carina motorcar, being driven by Ally, at the said location and conducted a search.

They were able to recover a white salt bag with 3 transparent bulky parcels containing cannabis in the trunk of the motor car.

The illegal substance was weighed and said to be 13 ½ pounds.

Ally was immediately apprehended.
