Man jailed for vandalizing Minister’s house

A seemingly mentally disturbed man who admitted to unlawfully and maliciously damaging Minister of State, Joseph Harmon’s property, was sentenced to six months in jail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday morning.

Samuel Greene, 30, of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, was reportedly asked to keep watch over the property on September 15, 2017, when he was seen by persons with a metal bar bashing the windows of the house. Police authorities were notified, leading to the defendant’s arrest.

The unrepresented man agreed with the particulars of the charges and facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne. Greene seemed to be in a dazed state when the Magistrate asked if he was “okay” and was heard replying “sometimes I does run off”.

Nonetheless the accused indicated that he accepted his actions and understood the penalty attached to the offence at hand.

Upon considering mitigating factors such as the defendant’s ready confession and the fact that he did not waste the court’s time, also bearing in mind, the extensive damage caused to the complainant’s property, Magistrate Azore handed down a penalty of six months behind bars.

Damages are approximated at $995,000 dollars.
