Man accused of beating his mother, chopping officer, shot twice

Police say that a 33-year-old unemployed male of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) wounded a policeman about 02:30hrs this morning and was shot twice.

This publication was informed that both men are currently receiving medical attention and their conditions are listed as stable.

An investigation has so far revealed that a police patrol responded to a report of a son beating his 60-year-old mother.

According to the police, the son when confronted by the officer, armed himself with a cutlass and “menacingly attacked and dealt the rank two chops on his left hand and left knee.”

As such, “the injured constable instinctively drew his service revolver and discharged two rounds which struck his attacker in the right arm and right collarbone” said the police.

Investigations are currently ongoing.
