Logger slapped with fraud charges, granted $300,000 bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 49 – year-old Siparuni logger was granted $300,000 bail on two counts of obtaining money by false pretense by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that on July 2, 2013 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud he obtained the sum of $400,000 from Terrence Persaud, in order to supply him with wood, knowing same to be false.

Particulars of the other charge alleged that on July 3, 2013 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud he obtained the sum of $250,000 from Stephan Olivere, in order to supply him with wood, knowing same to be false.

The Court heard that Montague made arrangements to deliver the wood from Mabaruma after he received money from both virtual complainants however, he failed to do so.

The Prosecutor did not object to bail but requested that defendant lodge his passport and report to the Brickdam Police station. The accused was unrepresented and will make his next Court appearance before Chief Magistrate PriyaSewnarine on April 3.
