Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI), owner of the Guyana Jaguars will host a four-day Practice Match beginning today at the Everest Cricket Club from 9:30hrs between two teams. Just back from a successful three-match A Team tour of Sri Lanka, Vishual Singh will lead one team which comprise players such as Tagenarine Chanderpaul who amassed the most runs in the league, legendary former West Indies captain and batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Barbadian Raymon Reifer who was the best all-rounder in the league.
Talented national all-rounder Christopher Barnwell will lead the opposition team which includes Gudakesh Motie and Keon Joseph who also just returned to Guyana after being part of the Sri Lanka tour, Chanderpaul Hemraj who made the highest individual score in the league and Eon Hooper who took the most wickets in the league.
The Guyana Jaguars will be defending the championship trophy for the second consecutive year, having won the coveted title in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. As such, a win for the Guyana Jaguars this season will see them being crown triple champs- a goal of the team and CGI.
With the goal in mind, CGI is hereby reminding players that the selectors are authorised to choose players from outside of selected franchise 15 on a ‘Pay For Play,’ basis should the need arise. As such, CGI expects the highest standards of competitiveness and professionalism throughout the season’s activities – in both matches and training; hereby emphasizing the need for optimal performances in matches and fitness, with nothing less of professional attitude being the hallmark of the players.
