International Invitational Festival set for this weekend

[www.inewsguyana.com]Several of the country’s top volleyball clubs get into action today for the Guyana Volleyball Federation’s second annual International Invitational Club Festival.

Speaking at the launch of the tournament earlier this week, Vice President of the GVF John Flores Jr spoke of what the tournament seeks to achieve.

“This tournament is part of the Guyana Volleyball Federation’s bloc development plan which is a plan designed to promote increased activity among neighboring countries basically at an affordable cost and to provide international exposure to our players in Guyana,” he said

Meanwhile President of the GVF Lenny Shuffler said that with more activities, the sport can be revived in all parts of Guyana as the federation looks to take the sport a notch higher.

“There is contact with Essequibo, mainstay and other parts of Essequibo to start an association we have contact with them already in honesty we did have all these association functioning and we would want to resuscitate them as fast as possible because more activity more exposure more people playing better quality national players,” the volleyball boss noted.

The festival will comprise preliminary games in a round robin format for the male teams while the female goodwill series will have one match each day of the festival and commences today with the conclusion set for Sunday.

Teams from Trinidad and Tobago in Big Sepos and Suriname (Yelico) will take on local sides Young Achievers, Port Mourant Training Centre and Guyana Defence Force Combined.

The newly formed Vanguard female team will take on their counterparts from Surinam (Yelico).
