[www.inewsguyana.com] – The semi-filled Cliff Anderson Sports Hall erupted when Ryan Gullen hit a go ahead three to give Guyana a 74-73 lead with 21 seconds left in the game on Wednesday evening (March 11) during Guyana’s first game of a three-game tournament with Bermuda.

A steal by Travis Burnett followed by a lay-up by Dave Causway saw Guyana winning the game 76-73 as time expired.

Guyana always played catch up during the course of the game, never having the lead until three minutes in the final quarter. Bermuda’s size and half court offence was big advantage for the visitors as they controlled the game for all but the final eight minutes.

Guyana’s up-tempo style was the driving force behind their win as Bermuda was slow to react to the speed of the Guyanese especially in the waning moments of the game.

Burnett ended with a team high 17 points while, Shelroy Thomas had 14 points in the win. Akeem Kanhai and Causway would add 11 points each while Gullen ended with 10 points.

Bermuda’s captain, Sullivan Phillips had a game high 18 points while also scoring for Bermuda were Dean Jones with 17 points and Chris Crumpler with 11 points.

The tournament will continue this evening from 19:00hrs while the final game will be played on Saturday from 20:00h.
