Marcia Fredericks, 49, was standing in her yard at around 03:00hrs calling a taxi to take her young nephew to Parika.

It was at that time that the suspect, who was masked, jumped the fence and grabbed the woman by her hair.

The perpetrator forced the woman into the house and began to hit her on the head with a gun, as he demanded cash.

The woman’s two daughters began to scream.

INews understands that the elder daughter ran to the back of the house while the younger girl, who is just 18-year-old, began to battle with the suspect.

She told this publication that the gunman then turned the gun on her and threatened to shoot.

“I told him we don’t have any money and then he just left,” she explained.

As the man was leaving, a gunshot went off.

According to the elder daughter, she thought her mother had died.

“When I hear the gunshot I thought they [he] killed my mother,” she recalled.

The ordeal lasted just a few minutes. The suspect, who escaped on foot, managed to steal a cell phone.

When the gunshot went off, neighbours were alerted and rendered assistance.

The Guyana Police Force was contacted however ranks only showed up until around 06:00hrs.

The family says they don’t feel safe and are contemplating moving.

Just a few months ago, several persons had attempted to break into their home.
