[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) has been working around the clock to restore disrupted telephone services to a large section of the lower East Coast Demerara following damaged cables.

Reports indicate that approximately eight hundred customers have been without telephone service since June 1 as a result of extensive damage done to a GT&T cable box at the junction of the University Of Guyana Road and the Railway embankment.gtt2

On Thursday, June 11, iNews observed technicians from the company working through the heavy downpour replacing and mending the damaged infrastructure.

The telephone service was disrupted when an errant motorist lost control and slammed into the cable box of the GT&T facility. iNews understands that the repairs could cost the local telephone giant millions of dollars, given the extent of work that has to be done to get the system up and running.

The company has already made it clear that damage to its infrastructure usually amounts to huge sums annually.
