ROGER LUNCHEON WEB[www.inewsguyana.com] – Government is bent on making the new Demerara Harbour Bridge a public/private partnership with the assistance of National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL).

Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon on Wednesday, October 23 told members of the media that this arrangement is within the memorandum of NICIL to conduct such partnerships.

“The government is not going to build using public resources a bridge across the Demerara River,” Dr. Luncheon said. He explained that it will be a similar arrangement like that of the Berbice River Bridge.

However, this arrangement was met with criticism from the opposition political parties. A pre-feasibility study was done for the construction of the new Harbour Bridge by the Public Works Ministry. That study identified the best location for the bridge to be between Houston, East Bank Demerara and Versailles on the West Bank of the river.
