[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) says it is all set to have the 7,452 Disciplined Service men and women from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Prisons and Fire Service cast their ballots on Saturday, May 02 as the rest of the country gears up to cast their ballot on May 11 for Guyana’s general and regional elections.

GECOM’s Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield told reporters that the Commission is in full preparation mode to facilitate the Forces on voting day.

“All our preparations are very advanced…my staff along with agents from respective Parties, they’ve extracted the amount of disciplined service ranks who will be voting…the process of extracting is done in the presence of agents of the Parties, we started that exercise yesterday afternoon [Tuesday] at 16: hours and we are going through that exercise as we speak with agents from the Parties.”

At least 84 polling stations will be in use across the country as the security officers will be voting in areas where they live.

“They will be intermixed as the law prescribes at the residences in the divisions sub division where these ranks would have ordinarily reside, that is to say I am a solider, I am stationed in Iteringbang but I belong to 51 village Corentyne, I will be intermixing in district 6 because as you know its general and regional elections.”

Military personnel will be confined from May 06, in preparation for deployment in support of the Guyana Police Force as becomes necessary on May 11.

It is traditional for the military to vote several days ahead of the general public so that troops can be available for service to the nation as the need arises during and even after the period of National Elections.

Only recently, Army Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Mark Phillips briefed servicemen and women of the GDF on their role regarding the conduct of duties and their service to the nation as soldiers and citizens for the upcoming national elections.

  3. u have to feel very sorry for ppp and their supporters to know that guyana security forces will never protect them from pnc wrath before during after elections..ppp supporters are the silent majority some too busy making loads of money while some are too busy drinking rum and brutalizing their spouses..they will never join police and army to defend self family property but are willing to pay all the taxes in the world thinking that they can be protected..ppp supporters better think it over…they are sitting ducks …those in security vote wth ther heart always for pnc..how do ppp silent majority expect them to protect them..they dont even pick up phones when u call 911..they arrive hours after you are brutalized and robbed..some of them are in fact bandits themselves..Inwes may not want to post this blog but the signs are there that ethnic cleansing might soon come to guyana..every one in guyana knows pnc can not win a free a fair transparent election with their 35% support base so what else PNC people fighting..
