GDF Private accused of murdering boyfriend’s mother to stand High Court trial

[] – Abiola Jacobs of Lot 55 Evan Phillips Park, Agricola, East Bank of Demerara was today committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of her ex-boyfriend’s mother. 

The 22-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Private was not required to plea to the capital offence when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on February 5, 2014.

Particulars of the charge detailed that on January 31, at Agricola Public Road, Greater Georgetown, she murdered 55-year old Agricola Resident Donna Taylor.

However, on her second appearance in Court Attorney – at – Law Adrian Thompson entered in appearance for Jacobs.

Approximately thirteen witnesses testified in the matter on behalf of the prosecution.

The accused was informed that a prima facie case was made out against her and there is enough evidence for her to stand trial at the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes for October 2014.

According to Police report, Sabat, Taylor’s friend who had been a guest at her home at time of the incident, was injured when she jumped from the window of the Lot 16/17 two-storey house in Agricola after persons had invaded the property.
