Fish Vendor accused of snatching Gold Chain of 14-Y-O remanded to prison

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Jamal Letlow, a Fish Vendor, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Annette Singh for allegedly snatching the gold chain – of a 14 – year old girl.

The incident occurred on December 14 at High Street, Georgetown. The chain, belonging to Sheneza Ramazan is worth some $25,000. It is alleged that around 09:00 hours on the day in question, the victim entered a minibus at Stabroek Market and the defendant entered same and sat next to her.

The Court heard that when the minibus stopped at High Street, Letlow snatched the chain and ran out of the bus. A passerby raised an alarm and a nearby police officer discharged his firearm in Letlow’s direction. He received a gunshot wound in his left thigh.

Bail was objected to by Police Prosecutor Michael Grant, on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. He was remanded to prison until January 13, 2015.
