Embattled Minister’s son, his girlfriend to be charged- Police

The son of Government Minister, Simona Broomes and his girlfriend are expected to be charged shortly with regards to an incident which occurred on Saturday last, in Bartica, where they allegedly assaulted each other.

“A thorough investigation into the alleged incident was conducted and legal advice has been obtained for the …persons to be charged [in accordance to] the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act Chapter 8:02,” a statement from the Police said on Thursday.

Hector Broomes is expected to be charged with one count of “Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm” and Gilibeth Rodriguez is also expected to face two counts –one for “Assault” and one for “Throwing Missiles.”

Recently, an online news entity had published an article alleging that Police “F” Division Commander, Kevin Adonis was threatened with being fired by Minister Broomes, who had wanted her son to be released from police custody and the matter kept quiet.

However, Adonis has since refuted these allegations.

“Nothing of the sort [happened], it is contrary to what happened,” the Commander told media operatives.

INews understands that on Saturday last, the two accused became involved in an verbal altercation regarding infidelity and it subsequently escalated to the point where they began to physically abuse each other.

The matter was allegedly reported by Rodriquez, resulting in her boyfriend being detained.

She was arrested shortly after.

Minister Broomes who is no stranger to controversy was recently in the public domain over an embarrassing situation involving herself and two security personnel attached to a business place at Providence.

With the exclusion of her Ministerial colleague Volda Lawrence, Government and more so President David Granger have remained mum on the incident which has since muddled the image of their Administration further.
