DSC05577[www.inewsguyana.com]The General Manager (GM) who is accused of orchestrating the gold heist committed on  El Dorado Gold Trading Company at Port Kaituma Region One, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday, November 15.

Neville Chandrawattie was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleges that on November 8 at Port Kaituma Region One, he stole 96 ounces of gold valued $22 million, and $71M in cash $71 millions, property of Tamesh Jagmohan.

Police prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that the accused was employed at El Dorado Gold Trading Operations as the General Manager. Mangru said that Chandrawattie is known to Amirullah Kuturatullah also called ‘Iron Roller’, who was previously charged.

He added that sometime prior to the commission of the offence; Chandrawattie and Kuturatullah planned the act as to how they would steal the money and gold from the company.

The Court heard that he then allowed Anil Dairam, who was also charged, to enter the premises and hide under the bed, while Chandrawattie placed sleeping tablets in the porridge of his coworker.

Dairam then tied up the workers while Chandrawattie packed the money and gold and gave it to Dairam, who then made an escape.

The Court heard that the General Manager then hid the remainder of the gold and then consumed the sleeping pills. It is alleged that he admitted to planning the robbery and he took the police to Kuturatullah’s house where the cash and gold were found and gave the police what he had.

The General Manager was represented by three lawyers: Peter Hugh, Compton Richardson and Hughly Griffith.

Hugh argued that the charge is a bailable offence and is not a case of robbery.

The matter was adjourned until November 22.
