[www.inewsguyana.com]Education Minister, Priya Manickchand has sent a strong warning to negligent contractors, who take their own time in completing work they were paid to do.

During her remarks at the commissioning ceremony for the extension of the Fort Wellington Secondary School, Manickchand explained that the extension to the very school was completed way pass the scheduled time due to “unreasonable delays” by the initial contractor.

According to Manickchand, “contractors come along and don’t realize that he has the duty to be a good citizen and finish the building on time and this inconveniences everybody…at the end of the day the buck has to stop somewhere.”

She added, “This is an opportune time to call on all contractors in this place where we are presently building, expanding and making sure the students are comfortable and contractors should do which that they signed on to do.”

The Education Minister appealed to all contactors to do their job and not to “skim” off of the taxpayers’ money.

She threatened to terminate contracts. “We will be terminating you out of the education bracket and we will ensure that we get quality work from people that can deliver.”
