Duo jailed for 4 years, fined $25M each over cocaine found in frozen fish

Two men were today sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $25 million each for shipping 20 pounds of cocaine in frozen fish at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) in 2018.

Businessman Amir Ally, 30, 0f Goed Fortuin West Bank Demerara (WBD) and truck driver, Baldeo Persaud, 32, of Leonora, West Coast Demerara were found guilty of trafficking the cocaine on February 6, 2014.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Ally was said to be the shipper and Persaud was the canter truck driver who transported boxes with cocaine stuffed frozen fish to the cargo shed at the airport.
