Digicel makes annual donation to Parkside Steel Orchestra

[www.inewsguyana.com]Digicel on Monday, February 3 made its annual donation to the Parkside steel orchestra which will contribute to their participation in the finals of the Pan-O-Rama Steel Pan Competition as part of Guyana’s 44th Republic Anniversary celebrations.

The Parkside Steel Orchestra was formed in 1998 as an after school activity for students, and has evolved over the years into a full steel orchestra with over 40 members including children and adults.

The Parkside steel Orchestra won the steel pan competitions in 1998,2001,2002,2003, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Digicel has been a proud supporter of Parkside since its entrance into the Guyana market under the trade name of U-Mobile.

Sponsorship and Events Manager, Gavin Hope said at the simple presentation ceremony, “Digicel will continue to pledge its support to the development of young people in Guyana whether it be through the arts, sports and any other form, we are proud to be associated with Parkside”.

The finals of the Pan-O-Rama Steel Pan Competition is schedule for February 16th 2014 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Mashramani this year is being celebrated under the theme ‘Cultural folklore; Celebrating 44.’
