Collision at Bee Hive leaves 2 dead after car plunges into trench

Two Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara residents are now dead following a head on collision on the Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara public road on Sunday evening, which resulted in them drowning after their vehicle became submerged in a nearby trench.

Dead are Satyanand Harrypaul, 37, and Varsha Khemraj, 19.

According to Traffic Chief, Ramesh Ashram on Monday morning, the incident occurred at about 22:15h.

Based on information received, the two deceased were travelling east along the northern carriageway of the road in motor vehicle PSS 9153, while another motorcar was proceeding west along the southern carriageway.

INews understands that the driver of the other vehicle is contending that PSS 9153 swerved into his path, resulting in a collision which sent the deceased’s vehicle plunging into a nearby trench.

It allegedly took some 20 minutes for public spirited persons to pull the two passengers from the vehicle, and they were quickly rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, only to be pronounced dead moments later.

An autopsy will be conducted later this week to confirm the causes of death.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in presently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
