Capital City left without Mayor and Deputy Mayor

Georgetown Mayor, Hamilton Green has left the country for an indefinite period while his Deputy Patricia Chase-Green has left the council without leave for more than two weeks.

Town Clerk Carol Sooba recalled that at the last statutory meeting on Monday, the Mayor sought to have Councilor Ranwell Jordan elected as an acting Mayor, but he was prevented from doing so since only the Town Clerk has the authority to call a special meeting to have someone elected.

In light of this, Sooba says that meeting will be held on Friday, August 16.

According to Sooba, despite this point being made, Councilor Jordan disregarded her and Tuesday last proceeded to take up the office of Mayor.

Sooba has since instructed the Chief Constable to uplift the keys from Councilor Jordan. [Akash Ramlackhan]
