Bravo leads Windies to victory

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A century from debutant Michael Lumb failed to give England an end to their run of poor form, handing the West Indies a 15 run win earlier today at North Sound Antigua.

Batting first, the West Indies were off to a shaky start, loosing Kieran Powell for five, Dwayne smith for 38, Kirk Edwards for 10 and Darren Bravo for 2, all before they reached 50.

However, a solid stance between Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo staged a fight back to take the side to 153 before the earlier departed for 65.

Bravo and Darren Sammy then blazed a trail to the 269-6 total, Bravo ending unbeaten on 87 off 151 balls while Sammy mowed the opposition with 61 off 52 balls before he was caught on the last delivery of the innings.

In the bowling department, Tim Bresnan snared three wickets for 68 runs from 10 overs while Joe root, Moeen Ali and James Tredwell had one wicket each.

In the English Men’s try at the creases, a flying start from openers Lumb and Ali failed to give them enough of a launching pad.

The duo took the score to 96 for the first wicket before Ali departed for 44 and the troubles started.

The batting crumbled around Lumb with only Root adding 37 in the Englishmen’s demise as they ended on 254 for 6 when their 50 overs expired.

Lumb was caught by the senior Bravo on 106. Sunil Narine bagged 2 wickets for 36 runs from his 10 over spell while Ravi Rampaul, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Dwayne Smith had one wicket each The next game is on Sunday.
