[www.inewsguyana.com] – Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues – Birkett and Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira say they are yet to consider the possibility of being appointed Prime Ministerial Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic in the May 11 polls.

Birkett, responding to questions from the media at a press conference on Wednesday, February 04 said she has not given any thought to the issue. This is despite public speculation being rife about her possible appointment to the post.

Observers have noted that Teixeira, Birkett or Junior Finance Minister, Juan Edghill, would be ideal for the post given their long service to the Party.

Whoever is chosen as the candidate will replace incumbent Samuel Hinds who has held the post since the PPP/C took office in 1992.

“I have not given any consideration to that thought. There is a process in our party with respect to that…those processes have always worked well and I have every confidence it will work well again,” said the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Meanwhile, Teixeira told iNews that she will follow her Party line.

“I am here to serve my country, the government and the Party.”

When asked whether she would be willing to take the mantle if offered the post, the Presidential Advisor said: “I won’t answer that yet.”
