Self proclaimed businessman, Barry Dataram, was earlier today (Tuesday) found guilty of cocaine possession for the purpose of trafficking, while the three other co-accused were freed.

His reputed wife, Anjanie Boodnarine, along with Kevin Charran and Trevor Gouviea, were freed of the charge due to lack of evidence.

barryMagistrate Judy Latchman, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that there was sufficient evidence to have Dataram convicted in his absence, and she was awaiting the value of the cocaine before handing down the sentence.

At prior hearings, Dataram as well as his reputed wife have failed to appear in Court.

Law enforcement officials are convinced that Dataram had skipped the country using fake travel documents.

The four were initially on trial for allegedly being in possession of 129.230kgs (equivalent to 284 pounds) of cocaine, on April 16, 2015 at Dataram’s residence at 661 Fourth Avenue, Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
