Baker accused of robbing US citizens on Leopold St remanded

One of the four men who were apprehended after allegedly attacking and robbing three US citizens who were at the intersection of Leopold and Breda Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown on July 28, was on Tuesday remanded for the offence when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Omalla Williams, a 26-year-old baker of Leopold Street was not allowed to plea to the charges.

It is being alleged that he robbed Darlene Gaines, Joe Hughes, Christina Gaines-Sluss ,Daisy Gaines-Sluss  and Dennis Grant  of one Samsung Galaxy s8 mobile phone- valued at $140,000-, a quantity of medications- valued at $80,000-, one MP3 Player- valued at $5,000, the US Passport of Hughes, and US$2,100 among other valuables.

It is however, also being alleged that Williams while being armed with a gun robbed Dr Guy Low on Smyth Street, Georgetown on April 24, 2018, Jannel Walters and Avil Crowther at Cross Street, Georgetown on April 27 and Rodwell Maynard at Leopold Street on April 30 2018.

Finally Williams was slapped with a charge of discharging a loaded firearm with intent on Damion Elliott on said April 30 at Leopold Street.

He appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan who remanded him to prison to next return on August 27 before City Magistrate Judy Latchman for reports.
