[www.inewsguyana.com] – A team from the International Children’s Heart Foundation (ICHF) commonly known as Baby Heart Foundation is once again visiting Guyana to perform surgeries on young heart patients.

During their two weeks (July 4- July 18) visit, the team is expected to operate on 15 patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). Two surgeries were performed on Monday, July 06 and two more are expected to be done during the course of Tuesday, according to a press release from the GPHC.

A team from the foundation last visited Guyana in May 2015 and performed a number of successful heart surgeries which received high praises from the hospital, the previous administration and the families of the patients.

This initiative will also eliminate the need for young heart patients to travel overseas to receive treatment since the foundation is also providing training to medical professionals at the hospital so the institution will eventually have the expertise to perform such surgeries on its own.
