23-Y-0 charged with murder of East Ruimveldt youth

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 23-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Kellon Hinds before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Shawn Barrow of Lot 8 East La Penitence, Georgetown was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on August 31 at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he murdered Hinds.

Hinds, called ‘Baige’, was gunned down. The accused was represented by Attorney-at-law, George Thomas, who told the court that his client has been fully cooperating with the police and is not a flight risk.

According Thomas, his client was eating at Royal Castle when the murder occurred. He requested that the court grants an early opportunity to commence the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).

The lawyer says he intends to produce video evidence to prove his client’s alibi on the night in question. Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones did not reveal any details on the case but informed the court that the file is incomplete and there are some additional statements to be made.

As such, the Magistrate granted a three week adjournment and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, for October 02. The accused was remanded.

iNews had reported that 22 – year – old Hinds was shot dead after he was attacked by three armed men. According to a police statement, at about 21:10 hrs, Hinds of East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown, was attacked in a yard at East Ruimveldt by three men armed with hand guns.

The men discharged rounds at Hinds which struck him about his body and they escaped. The young man was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
