$22.6 M Low Voltage Network in Region 6 nears completion

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Some 1230 residents from No. 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne will soon gain access to electricity with the construction of the $22.6 M extension to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Inc Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network at No. 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Region 6.

According to a press release from the utility company, the network is expected to be completed and energized by February 7, 2014.  On completion of the 9 kilometers of primary and secondary network, electricity will now be available to the 300 house lots that make up the scheme.

The project was funded by the Central Housing and Planning Authority of the Ministry of Housing, and executed by Cummings Electrical Co. Ltd.

To meet GPL’s construction standards, the network design and verification of construction standards were done by GPL engineers.  Construction, which started in June, 2013, was delayed due to the late delivery by the supplier of critical line hardware and a shortage of acceptable Wallaba poles.

Residents who now wish to apply for service can collect application forms from GPL Commercial Offices at Corriverton and Chesney, W.C.B or on-line at www.gplinc.com.

Application forms must be signed in the presence of an authorized GPL Customer Service Representative and submitted along with copies of proof of ownership (transport/agreement of sale) or tenancy agreement, certificate of inspection and a national ID card/ passport.
