[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 25-year-old vendor, facing a fraudulent convergent charge, was today (Thursday, September 18), refused bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Shawn Clarke also known as Sherwin Benjamin of 100 South Better Hope, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 2 at High Street, Georgetown, being solely entrusted by Randolph Glasgow with a drinks cart containing a quantity of beverages together valued $70,550, he fraudulently converted to his own use and benefits, property of Princess Peters.

Representing the Prosecution was Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt. He told the Court that although the defendant gave an address to the Court, the Prosecution learned that the Clarke lives on the street.

Hunt added that the defendant was convicted about three or four times before on larceny charges.

In response, the unrepresented defendant told the Court that he was only convicted once in the past.

However, bail was refused and the case was transferred before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond for October 18.
