Vehicles, other valuables stolen after armed bandits attack Moblissa family

A group of armed bandits on Sunday evening invaded the Moblissa, Linden/Soesdyke Highway home of a family of five.

The perpetrators escaped with a quantity of cash and valuables including the family’s vehicles (a silver Fielder Wagon with registration number PTT 4321 and a Mitsubishi canter truck with registration number GWW 5695).

They also carted off with a grasscutter, a television set, a gas cylinder, four cellphones, computers, as well as cash.

The bandits, who were armed with cutlasses, and stormed the home at around 19:54hrs.

The family was in the process of having dinner when the assailants invaded and began to assault them.

After the bandits escaped, they contacted a relative who works as a security guard along the East Bank Highway. The relative reportedly spotted the vehicle PTT 4321 in the vicinity of Pearl, EBD.

The relative reportedly trailed the vehicle. However, the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control of the car and crashed into the curb in the vicinity of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) in Diamond, EBD.

Two occupants exited the car and escaped into some nearby bushes.

Meanwhile, later that evening, acting on information received, police ranks made checks along a trail at Haruni Village, Linden/Soesdyke Highway where they discovered a motorcar suspected to be the property of one of the perpetrators.

Some of the stolen articles were in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a highway patrol base where it was lodged.

Investigations are ongoing.
