Update: Police confirm three dead in Coverden Smash up

accident[www.inewsguyana.com]The Police Public Relations Department has confirmed that another person died in this morning’s accident in Coverden, East Bank Demerara, bringing the total to three.

Dead are Loretta Evans, 42 – year – old Culbert Marcs of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara and 28 – year – old Delroy Evans.

According to the Police, investigations so far have revealed that Repish Bhagwandin, 19 – years, of Hope, East Coast Demerara was driving motor lorry GPP 8495 which was loaded with sand and allegedly attempted to pass another motor lorry that was parked on the roadway.

In so doing, the sand truck ended up in the path of route 72 mini bus BPP 3521 that was proceeding in the opposite direction and the vehicles collided.

Police stated that as a result of the collision, Marcs, who was the driver of the mini-bus and Delroy Evans and Loretta Evans, who were passengers in the mini-bus, received injuries to which they succumbed.

The lorry driver and others were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital for treatement.

This is as a result of a horrific accident, which occurred around midday on Friday October 18 at Coverden, East Bank Demerara. Dead are 28 – year – old Delroy Evans of Madhia and Culbert Marks a.k.a Bertie of Prince William Street, Georgetown. Marks was the driver of the route 72 minibus, which was heading into Madhia at the time of the accident.

Scores of relatives and friends of the dead and injured turned up at the Georgetown Public Hospital as news of the accident went viral.  The now dead Evans was the sole care – taker of his two – year – old daughter, Maya Evans who was with him at the time the accident occurred. She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital with injuries.

Relatives told iNews at the hospital that the collision is as a result of the truck swerving into the lane of the minibus.
