Timehri man slapped with narcotics charge

Thirty-year-old Shazid Shaw of Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara was on Friday granted bail on a narcotics possession charge.

Shaw, a taxi driver denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Providence Magistrate Court earlier today.

Police stated that on January 29, 2019 while at his Timehri, East Bank Demerara home, Shaw had in his possession 668 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to police facts, an intelligence led operation was conducted by ranks of C.I.D Headquarters at his home when the narcotic was unearthed in the yard.

The defendant’s pregnant wife, mother and father-in-law were also taken into custody and released after the 72-hour detention period.

Defense Attorney Bernard DaSilva made a successful bail application on behalf of Shaw. He was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 and will make his next court appearance on March 4. In addition, he was ordered to report to the Timehri Police Station on a weekly basis until the completion of the matter.
