A male suspect, in his late twenties, has been apprehended in connection with the robbery and murder of a popular Durban Street, Georgetown proprietor on Thursday evening in Kitty, Georgetown.

Dead: Godfrey Scipio

64-year-old Godfrey Scipio, aka “Saga” was shot once just after being attacked and robbed by a lone gunman outside of a Kitty hotel.

Scipio was reportedly leaving the hotel and about to enter his car which was parked in front of the building when he was accosted by the gunman.

According to the Police, investigations revealed that the suspect “discharged a round hitting Scipio in the abdomen, relieved him of his jewellery and escaped on foot in a northern direction.”

Scipio was rushed to a private city hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

At a private medical facility last evening, relatives positively identified their loved one resulting in sporadic outbursts of screams, with nephews and nieces shouting questions of “Why?!”

INews was informed that this was not the first time the businessman had been shot. In in April 2011, he was injured during a shootout at Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown when four armed men had discharged rounds.

His body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
