Sport Director sees potential in Republic Cup

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The inaugural Guyana Softball Cricket League’s Republic Cup will bowl off tomorrow (Friday, February 14) at venues across Georgetown.

During the launch of the T20 Style Tournament, it was disclosed that matches will be played simultaneously at the Everest and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) grounds as well as the Police and GNIC sports club ground.

Director of Sport, Neil Kumar who attended the event spoke of the future the sport has in the country, challenging the Guyana Softball Cricket League to garner international support and interest.

The National Sport Commission’s boss noted that they are proud of the tournament of which they are one of the main sponsors. The dual category tournament will bring together competitors in the open and over 40 divisions.

For the winner of the open category, there sits a hefty $600 000 grand prize while the Runners up will take home $200 000.

In the over-40 category, $500 000 will go to the winners and $200 000 to the second – place team.
