[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has again joined forces with the Bank of Nova Scotia for the development of the sport in the ancient county.

During a brief ceremony last week, Marketing Manager of the company Jennifer Cipriani handed over a cheque worth some $250,000 to Secretary of the BCB Angela Haniff.

According to the BCB Secretary the funding will be used to offset some of their major programs for the year.

Some of these programs include their Annual Magazine, Awards Ceremony, Tribute to Teachers program along with an Essay and Spelling Bee competition.

Speaking on behalf of the BCB, their Special Events Committee Chairman Hilbert Foster said that they will be celebrating their 75th anniversary following some years of hard work to the sport.

According to Foster the Bank will be sponsoring the seventh edition of the BCB/Scotia Bank Cricket Academy, which has been successful to the county’s cricketers.

This year’s edition of the Academy would be hosted at the Area ‘H’ ground in late July.

Some 70 students have been named as part of the camp which will be facilitated by Michael Hyles and Winston Smith with emphasis being placed on batting, bowling, fielding, physical fitness and wicket-keeping.

Cipriani in her remarks indicated that her company has supported the event based on their strong track record and their drive to develop the sport.
