Shock waves rippled through the mining town of Linden in Region 10 today after news spread like wildfire that a local Pastor and well-known mini-bus driver, Elvin Lorrimer, succumbed to wounds he received after being shot late last night at the Linden-Georgetown mini-bus park in the capital city.

INews understands that the man who hails from Carter Street, Kara Kara, Linden died in the wee hours of this morning while receiving emergency medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for gunshot wounds.

Commander of Police ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, earlier today stated that the 53-year-old Pastor/mini-bus driver was filling his vehicle with passengers for a trip heading back to his hometown when the shooting took place.

He stated that two armed men on a motorcycle rode up and stopped alongside Lorrimer’s mini-bus and reports are that one of the two perpetrators whipped out his firearm and shot Lorrimer multiple times to his upper body.

The duo quickly made good their escape on their motorcycle as persons in the area who heard the gunshots began reacting as they realised that Lorrimer’s body was riddled with bullet wounds and was on the ground.

Although he was rushed to the GPHC immediately with hopes that his life could be saved, despite the efforts of the doctors on duty, the man died shortly before 01:00 hrs this morning.

According to Commander Hicken, the investigators of his Division are “working on a theory” and cannot disclose any further information at this point in time.

He told INews that the police are following all leads and have information which may soon lead to the capture of the two armed men.

  1. He was popular but the touts here in Gt and a few drivers won’t agree. They often times taunted him. They wanted to know which Political Party he belonged to. He was free spirted of course this didn’t sit well with them. Its strange some can wear their green proudly but the people affiliated with the other party is forbidden from wearing Red. He was a God fearing man doing what he loved as Educated as he was , he stayed humble and jovial. Its strange a busy area like this you hardly ever see a police man after 5:00 PM These touts are bullies, demanding which bus , you should travel with. Passengers don’t have that freedom to make their choice without insults being hurdled at them. The area is dimly lit at nights . Is so sad no one came to his rescue. I now fear for the other drivers who is not black or a member of APNU . The racial tension is very high , people are afraid to speak up.
