[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 65 – year – old Taxi Driver and his 50-year-old accomplice fingered in a foiled robbery attempt were remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman on Monday, January 26 on an attempt to commit a felony charge.

Bert Gulliver of Robert Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara and Albert De Freitas, a Fisherman of Leopold Street, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on January 23, at Kitty, Georgetown they attempted to steal from Praim Narine.

It is also alleged that on January 23, at the same place, De Freitas unlawfully and maliciously damaged Narine’s motorcar door lock valued $15,000. He pleaded not guilty.

They were represented by Attorney-at-Law Leslie Sobers. He said that De Freitas, whose neck was bandaged, was taking a lift in Gulliver’s car when the police arrested them. The lawyer argued that they can hardly move, much less commit such a crime.

Bail was objected to by Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels, who described the men as Court regulars. She opposed bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence by the defendants and the penalty it attracts.

She told the Court that the men were caught red-handed trying to sneak into the man’s car. Bail was refused and the duo will return to court on February 09.
