[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Miner charged with the offence of robbery under arms was remanded to prison yesterday by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Keith Brazillo pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on October 30, 2014 on Main Street, Georgetown, being armed with a gun, he robbed Randy Singh and Meena Singh of over $365,000 in cash and personal items.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question, both victims were walking along Main Street when the defendant confronted them with a gun and robbed them.

He allegedly fired a shot in the air before making good his escape. The defendant was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Adrian Thompson, who told the Court that his client was arrested on the lack of knowledge and hence was identified as the criminal.

He explained that the description given by the victims did not match Brazillo; he explained that in such cases of robbery under arms defendants are often wrongly identified.

Grant successfully opposed bail based on the nature and gravity of the offence and that a weapon was allegedly used to commit the offence.

He informed the Court that there are other allegations that are currently being investigated against the defendant, who also has another pending matter in the Court.

Brazillo was remanded to prison and the case was transferred before Magistrate Fabayo Azore for December 02, 2014.
