Man charged with attempted murder remanded to prison

handcuffs[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sunil Pollard [no address given] was today charged with the offence of attempted murder before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on November 04 at Kingston, Georgetown; he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Wayne Baird with intent to kill him.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant opposed bail on the grounds that the accused was only arrested on December 28.

The Court heard that on the day in question around 17:30 hrs, Baird and his friends were at Duke Street, Kingston, when Pollard sat on his bike. Baird asked Pollard to come off his bike.

Pollard then took a broken bottle and allegedly stabbed Baird multiple times to his neck, which rendered him unconscious.

Meanwhile, Pollard was also charged with disorderly behavior. He pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on November 02 at Brickdam Police Station, he behaved in a disorderly manner.

He was fined $10,000 and sentenced to two weeks imprisonment for this offence.

For the attempt murder charge, he was remanded to prison until, January 19, 2015.
