One of two brothers on Tuesday morning pleaded guilty to the January 9 2014 murder of their cousin at Quamatta Village, Central Rupununi, when he appeared before Justice Bovell-Drakes at the Demerara High Court.

Phillip Sutherland will know his fate on March 27 2018 following defence counsel, Siand Dhurjohn’s request for a probation report before sentencing.

It was previously reported that Phillip Sutherland and his brother, Franklin Sutherland were initially charged with murdering their cousin, Martin Roberts following a drinking spree.

iNews understands that the siblings and Roberts had travelled to the Quamatta Village Farm and upon returning home, began to imbibe yeast tonic (an Amerindian Alcoholic beverage).

However, shortly after, an argument ensued resulting in Roberts being thrown to the grown and brutally beaten by his cousins, who left him in an unconscious state.

He was subsequently pronounced dead.
