Magistrate dismisses Robbery charge against Police Officer after witnesses were a ‘no – show’

Popo[www.inewsguyana.com] – The case against Police Constable, Colin Harris and Kelvin Pollard, was dismissed on Wednesday, May 14 by Magistrate Judy Latchman based on the absence of civilian witnesses, who were scheduled to testify against the accused.

The duo was charged with robbery underarms, which they allegedly committed on Green Ice Taxi Service on December 7, 2013. It is alleged that on the day in question, at the Taxi Service located at South Ruimveldt Gardens, they robbed Rosita Kalchay of $620,000 and US$50; monies belonging to Vibert Pooran, owner of the taxi.

They duo made their first appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and were remanded to prison. The matter was transferred before Magistrate Latchman for trial and the prosecution was led by Police Inspector Joel Ricknauth.

The Police witnesses testified in the matter and on the last occasion. Today, the civilian witnesses failed to show. These witnesses included Rosita Kalchay, Andrew Gad, Jinelle Burke and Naomi Ramroop.
