Lodge man who beat mother with rolling pin for $500 fined $30,000

A 33-year-old man, who assaulted his mother with a rolling pin, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday after he was charged for the offence.
Terry Clement of D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and pleaded guilty to both charges.
The first charge stated that on September 22, 2019, at D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Norma Jack.
It was further alleged that on the same day and location, he made use of threatening language towards his mother.
The unrepresented man in his address to the court stated that, “I love my mom bad and I would do anything for my mom but she does take advantage of me because I don’t have any brother or sister”.
The man added, “A man nearly kill me and he give me $500,000 to settle the matter, and I give her the money to keep and she ain’t want give me my money that’s why I fly in a passion and picked up the rolling pin and beat her”.
The Virtual Complainant (VC) who was present in court stated, “The morning I was preparing for church and he wake up and started cussing me. He asked me for $500 and I told him I don’t have”.
The woman continued by saying that her son followed her around the house and ran into the kitchen where he armed himself with the rolling pin and started to beat her.
The mother further added that man went to the door and told her that he is not leaving the house until she presented him with the money.
Nevertheless, the woman reported the matter and the defendant was arrested. The Magistrate instituted a $30,000 fine or one month imprisonment.
