Local artistes named for ‘Generation Next’ concert at inaugural Guyana Festival

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Tourism Ministry officially launched the ‘Generation Next’ Concert which will be a part of the Inaugural Guyana Festival slated for August 8 to 10.

Among the artistes that will be performing include Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo, Adrian Dutchin, Melissa “Vanilla” Roberts, First Born, Big Red, Rajesh Dubraj, Alabama, and Kwasie Edmonson among many other future faces of the local music industry.

This exciting concert which will bring an end to the festival activities on Sunday, August 10, aims to promote young talented Guyanese artistes who have worked to make a name for themselves in the entertainment arena.  

Entertainment Manager of the Ministry of Tourism, Lennox Canterbury noted that this concert will offer something for all age ranges, but most importantly it will be all entertainment.

Meanwhile Minister of Tourism (ag) Irfaan Ali pointed out that the concert will be a very exciting one filled with energy and enthusiasm. He added that when these local artistes go abroad it is the country’s name they will be taking forward.

“Once our artistes are playing outside, it is the Golden Arrowhead that they will be taking with them,” he said.

Prior to this concert a cook-off of traditional Guyanese cuisine, such as duck curry, pepperpot, cook-up, metemgee and black cake will be held. This competition will see participation of a team from Florida which will be cooking hassar curry.

The Minister is also encouraging persons to purchase their Festival passports which will allow them to enjoy great discounts at over 20 different business entities and allow them entry to all three days of the festival.

Passport holders will also have the opportunity of winning a new car by way of a raffle. Minister Ali noted that these passports are of limited quantity as only 10,000 have been printed and almost half of this has already been sold.

These passports are available at 18 locations countrywide including Nigel’s Supermarket, Ashmins, Courts, N and S Mattai, Survival Supermarket, KK Gas Station (Mahaica), M and M Snackette, Courts at Parika, Church’s Chicken (Linden), Essential Care Pharmacy, G3 Building at Diamond Housing Scheme, Fat Boy’s Discount Store (Stelling Road, Vreed-en-Hoop), the Ministry of Tourism, and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) at the Sophia Exhibition Centre.

The Night of Legends Concert which will be held on August 9 will also be another exciting evening of music by some of Guyana’s best artistes including Dave Martins, Sammy Baksh, Terry Gajraj Yoruba Singers, Mighty Rebel, Sash Persaud, Celia Samaroo, Teddy Jones, Johnny Braff, Glenn Miller, Hilton Hemerding, Winston Caesar and Aubrey Mann.

Also another interesting aspect of this event is the Guyana Festival cricket match, which will see the Master’s Team and President’s XI going after the Festival Cup.
