Fireworks and jubilant screams from thousands of ecstatic Guyanese and overseas visitors greeted the hoisting a few minutes ago, at exactly midnight, of the Golden Arrowhead – our national flag.
Guyana attained independence from Great Britain on May 26th, 1966 – 50 years ago. All of Guyana celebrate this historic milestone. We, as Guyanese, are proud of our achievements over the past 50 years.
INews will, shortly, bring you the full text of President David Granger’s address to the Guyanese Nation to mark this historic occasion, as well as photos of tonight’s historic event which was attended by more than 20,000 persons.
