[www.inewsguyana.com]Staff of the Government Information Agency (GINA) on Tuesday morning, September 24 decided they were fed up of not being paid and staged a sit in at their office.

Head of GINA, Neaz Subhan confirmed with iNews that after the staff decided to sit in, a meeting was held and their issues were discussed. According to Subhan, the workers of GINA have not been paid in excess of three months, as a result of the budget which was slashed by the political opposition – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance for Change (AFC).

“Their actions are justified because they haven’t been paid for quite a while and people have financial commitments to certain institutions. We explained to them that the problem was caused by the opposition and not the government, so we asked them to bear with us while we sort it out,” Subhan explained to iNews.

The APNU and AFC decided to slash the budget of GINA, claiming that they [the opposition] should be provided equal media coverage with that of other government agencies. The budget issue is currently engaging the attention of the Court.
