[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) were crowned as the champs of the Farfan and Mendes Men’s First Division League that concluded at the GCC ground on Wednesday evening.

GCC topped the national under-21 side 1-nil in the final tournament to win the title.

With the match seemingly headed to a nil-all stalemate after a scoreless first half, former national captain Alan Fernandes fought through tight defence on the right side threading an accurate pass to brother Philip on the far side of the goal who then blasted the ball into the roof of the net to break the deadlock with six minutes remaining.

Time would expire with little more opportunity, leaving GCC as the victors of the day and for the competition as 2014 National Men’s Hockey champions.

The match was followed by a brief presentation of the trophy by Delyon Josiah, Marketing Officer of Farfan and Mendes Limited.
