[www.inewsguyana.com]As the unbearable stench of garbage fills the air in Georgetown, the Mayor and City Council is still struggling to clean up the streets, after its Town Clerk Carol Sooba terminated the contract of Cevons Waste Management.

During a telephone interview with iNews on Thursday, October 31, Sooba said that there are interim measures in place by the City Council to deal with the garbage issue.

However, Sooba said that while the Council disposes of the garbage, there are vendors who still wantonly dump their waste. Added to the list of woes facing the Council is also pressure from Cevons Waste Management.

Sooba alleged that the compactor of the waste management company is still parked at some areas, preventing the City Council from removing the waste. According to the Town Clerk, she had to seek the assistance of government to have compactor removed.
