Argument over cellphone leads Linden man to dousing girlfriend with boiling water

A Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara – Berbice), two sisters are now patients at the Linden Hospital Complex after being severely beaten.

Police said that the incident occurred just about 22:30h on Monday when the sisters were at the home of the boyfriend of one of them. Based on the information received, an argument erupted between the sister and her boyfriend over her cellular phone.

The man allegedly wanted the woman to unlock her phone but she refused after which he took a mug of boiling water and threw it on her. She sustained second-degree burns to her right side face.

Not satisfied, the man then picked up a piece of wood and began beating the woman in her head.

The sister tried to separate them but the perpetrator then picked up a three-inch block and dealt her a lash to her lower right leg which caused her leg to be broken. She received further lashes about her body and head before he made good his escape, leaving the two victims lying in the yard covered with blood about their bodies.

They were both admitted to the Linden Hospital Complex where they were treated and are in stable condition.

He subsequently turned himself over to the Police at about 03:10h on Tuesday at the Mackenzie Police Station where he was told of the allegation, cautioned and admitted to having inflicted the injuries on both victims.

He was then arrested and placed into custody pending further investigation.
