[www.inewsguyana.com] –A Partnership For National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) coalition says it will proceed with the Guyana Elections Commission’s list of voters for May 11, despite the fact that its Presidential Candidate, David Granger revealing that the current list of electors is a “dirty list.”
Co-Chair of the APNU/AFC elections campaign, Joseph Harmon told a news conference on March 27, that the coalition will seek to address issues surrounding the list of electors post May 11.
“After the 11th of May, issues which arise with the list, we are going to clean that up. But as of now we are putting in place mechanisms that will guarantee that whatever is on that list, we are able to check it, we are able to guarantee it…we are going to utilize international resources to ensure that we have a list that represents the voting population of Guyana,” Harmon articulated.
He further pointed out that one of those mechanisms being employed would see the list being perused name by name as he noted that the coalition is well aware of which areas have recorded population “spikes.”
“This is your list, these are your elections, you have a responsibility just as your political leaders to ensure that the people who are on that list are the people who are eligible to vote…it is our collective responsibility to ensure we do what is right,” he maintained.
Campaign Co-Chair Raphael Trotman emphasized that “citizens have to be “ultra-scrutineers” come May 11.
However, it must be noted that the issue of the list of electors being bloated has arisen before and GECOM in response to previous concerns had noted that it is illegal for the Body to take off names of persons from the National List of Electors without proper documentation from the General Registrar’s Office (GRO) which falls under the auspices of Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee.
